My business philosophy

I don’t mind risk. I am willing to take risk, but always look at those situations and opportunities in a very calculated way. There have been a lot of new technologies that have come out over the last decade or so, and a lot of people probably look at those as great risks. We try to figure out how they can work on our operation to help us become more efficient.

My definition of success

To me, success means raising a family, making a good living, being able to prosper, and above all, being able to have your family stay on the farm, make a living and be happy doing it. Part of that is making sure you can bring in the next generation if they want to be part of the operation.

Why I work with FCSAmerica

I have been working with Farm Credit since I got my first operating loan in 1978. I have had a great relationship with them over the years. Since I started there have been a lot of changes in agriculture, and I appreciate that Farm Credit has always been on the cutting edge and provides different services as the needs arise over the years.

I like the digital tools that Farm Credit provides us. They’ve changed the way I approach different aspects of my business, and they have just given me the ability to analyze my enterprises without having to make a call to the office between 8:00 and 5:00. I can get my financial information anytime.

What I love about agriculture

I really enjoy the production. You start out in the spring and it’s always fun to watch every new crop grow and prosper, then reap the bounty at the end of the year. It can be very challenging, but it can be very rewarding. There’s never a dull day. That’s what makes it fun.
