More from Chris and Nicole

How we got our start in agriculture

Chris: I went to college for two years to be a diesel technician because my dad didn’t have enough acres to support both of our families. Then our turkey barns came along and that’s how I got back to the farm. That was the best day of my life, the best decision we ever made. We knew nothing about raising turkeys, but FCSAmerica walked us through it.

Our farming philosophy

Chris: My dad always reminded me not to spend more than what you have. When times get bad you must have a safety net. We do take risks, we just don’t overextend ourselves.

Overcoming our greatest challenge

Nicole: Facing the bird flu with our turkey barns was tough, but I knew we would come back. We work hard for what we do, and there was nothing that was going to stop us from getting back up and running again.

What success looks like on our farm

Nicole: Success to me means everything God has given me – my kids, my husband, the farm – and being able to be together every day. I really enjoy being able to work beside Chris and watch what he does.

Our vision for the future

Chris: Carrying on the family farm is a big responsibility. I want to grow our farm in acres and with more turkey barns if the opportunity arises, because I want the kids to be able to come back and experience this.
