Omaha, Nebraska – (April 30, 2014) Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica), a customer-owned financial cooperative, awarded $78,275 in Working Here Fund grants to 53 organizations in its four-state area during the first quarter of 2014.

Each Working Here Fund grant provides up to $2,000 for projects and organizations that make a positive, long-term impact in the following areas: agriculture education, young and beginning producers, hunger and nutrition. Grants also are available for disaster assistance and essential services. Since its inception in April 2013, the Working Here Fund has awarded $279,400 to organizations in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Examples of projects awarded grant money during the first quarter of 2014:

• School gardens grown for fresh produce to combat food insecurity

• Food pantries and food backpack programs

• CASE, STEM and agriculture curriculums

• Grain bin rescue equipment for volunteer fire departments

• Improved fairgrounds for livestock competitions

“The organizations we support through the Working Here Fund are doing important work in their communities and on behalf of agriculture,” said Doug Stark, president and CEO of FCSAmerica. “We at FCSAmerica appreciate the opportunity to part of such worthwhile efforts.”
