Communities in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming receive a total of $201,125 in 2013 from FCSAmerica’s Working Here Fund
Omaha, Nebraska – February 26, 2014 – Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica), a customer-owned financial cooperative, awarded $50,325 in Working Here Fund grants to 31 organizations in the fourth quarter of 2013.
The Working Here Fund was established by FCSAmerica in April 2013 and marked its first year in operation with a total of $201,125 in grants awarded to organizations in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.
Among the recipients:
- Schools planting gardens to give students fresh produce for lunch and hands-on experience in production agriculture.
- Food pantries trying to keep up with a growing need for supplemental food.
- Volunteer fire departments adding grain bin rescue equipment to their firehouses.
- FFA students promoting farm safety and improving fairgrounds for livestock competitions.
“The opportunity to provide grants that support local organizations dedicated to improving our rural communities is a worthwhile effort,” said Doug Stark, president and CEO of FCSAmerica.
The Working Here Fund is part of FCSAmerica’s community involvement program. The fund provides grants of up to $2,000 each to organizations with projects that fall into the areas of ag education, hunger and nutrition, and young and beginning producers.
