Omaha, Nebraska – The Board of Directors of Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) has selected Nicklaus Vande Weerd to serve the Board as Appointed Customer-Stockholder Director. This Board appointment fills a vacancy on the Board created as a result of Jeremy Heitmann’s election to the Board beginning January 1, 2011.
Vande Weerd will begin his service on the Board effective November 1, 2011 and will fill the term ending December 31, 2011. He will then serve a four year term beginning January 1, 2012.
“The Board’s goal was to appoint a director to represent certain aspects of our customer base and we are excited to have found a customer-stockholder with Nick Vande Weerd’s diverse background and experience,” said Dan Shaw, Chairperson of the Board. “He not only has a background in agribusiness and the dairy industries, but he also represents FCSAmerica’s Young and Beginning group of producers.”
Vande Weerd is from Brookings, SD and part of two agricultural businesses. Vande Weerd Family Farms custom raises 500 heifers and farms 1,100 acres. Pleasant Dutch Dairy is a 1,300-cow dairy operation.
Vande Weerd holds a masters degree in Economics from South Dakota State University and has a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business. Vande Weerd has also served in the Air National Guard for 11 years and became a commissioned officer in the fall of 2010.
